Running…

“Running” is probably the word that would sum out these days for me. I feel like I’m running in all directions trying to make ends meet while running out of time on all fronts!

- I met a publisher who is willing to print the story of Layla! That’s great news, don’t ya think? There’s a trick though! The plan is to submit the draft to Ministry of Culture and Information to get authorization to print it after Eid inshallah. The publisher told me that it’s going to be a tough sale because my story contains “frowned upon” subjects even though I, personally, don’t think there’s anything objectionable! My hope is that I’ll be asked to “edit” some parts of the story only rather than having the story rejected as a whole.

- However, I am running out f time on editing! Turns out it’s such a difficult task and I don’t trust anyone else to do it! I need to be done with editing before Eid so I can deliver the finalized version to the publisher bt I’m not sure that is possible. Looks like I will need more time.

- My surgery rotation final is right after Eid! We come back to school on Saturday and my final is on Monday! I have a tremendous amount of studying to do and I”m worried I haven’t studied enough to get an A on this exam. So you see, I’m running out of time to study too!

- I’m also occupied these days with various volunteering activities which are taking mcuh of my time. I will try to cut back a little bit at least until I start my next rotation. They keep me running all the time!

- A friend once told me, “When you are trying to win someone’s heart, always remember that you are not the only one running the race” well isn’t that wise!

- Eid plans everyone?! Well I guess as usual we’ll be at Al-Durra the entire week! That’s our tradition!

WISH ME LUCK and PRAY FOR ME PLEASE!

ps. my plan to pray taraweeh everyday has failed :P

Ramadan Thoughts

- Why do people eat a lot in Ramadan?! Isn’t the whole concept of fasting is feeling for those who can’t afford food throughout the year and trying to understand how they suffer? It’s funny how people tend to actually GAIN WEIGHT during Ramadan. It contradicts the basic goal of this holy month. I’m always amazed by the sight of shopping carts in the super markets in the weeks prior to Ramadan. It makes you think people are stocking up for a war that will last 3 years at least! Do you really have to have Konafa everyday? Can’t you spare Caramel and Jello everyday? Should you have a thousand kinds of juices in the fridge for this one month?

- I don’t know why many don’t like to work in Ramadan. “We’re tired and fasting” is a common response. I don’t mind working in Ramadan. As a matter of fact, I wouldn’t mind working full hours like regular days in Ramadan. The best thing about Ramadan’s working hours is that I don’t have to wake up early! 10 is a great time to begin lol I wish we started on 10 in normal days too! I’m willing to stay at the hospital until 6 istead of 4 if I can come 10 instead of 8 in the morning!

- Taraweeh Prayer is probably one of the best aspects of Ramadan, especially if the mosque is clean and spacious and the Imam has a nice voice. I wonder though why do we attend mosques to pray Taraweeh which is a sunna, not obligatory, and we don’t attend them for everyday prayers which are more important. I’m guilty of that myself.

- Is it me or is time not enough in Ramadan? I come back home usually around 4:30. I’d sleep and wake up after 2 hours for Fatoor. Afterwards, time is wasted online until Esha prayer and taraweeh. Then I’d come home to try to study and end up sleeping yet again only to wake up 2 or 3am to have sahoor and stay up studying or reading novels until 8 where I head for college. Yes I know I said we start on 10 but we have to get to the hospital early to prepare our cases and patients so we can present them to the doctors. The idea is that I don’t HAVE TO be there at 8, just whenever I feel like it.

- As you see, I’m not watching TV in Ramadan, Any suggestions regarding good shows?! I just watch MBC4 sitcoms whenever I can but that’s it. King Farooq seems interesting because of the history aspect but I’m not sure. I’m not into drama serieses.

- Have a good Ramadan everyone and inshallah rabbana ye3′frlna kolna zonobna fy da alshahr :)

I’m back now!

Well, I guess I have to apologize for disappearing like I did but I just lost interest in blogging. As a matter of fact, I lost interest in many things all at once. I don’t know what happened to me that I suddenly had no will or desire to do anything. Not to mention I suffered from a long bad luck streak that made me feel like the world was out to get me. Anyhow, things are getting slowly better now and I’m hoping for the best.

I’ve missed this place and I’ve promised myself that I would make it at least a weekly habit to write a new post. We’ll see how long I am going to keep this promise! For now, I’m back and therefore you can expect more frequent posts, that is if anyone is still reading !

Ramadan Kareem everyone! I honestly don’t think I’m ready for Ramadan yet! Can’t we push it back to another month or two?! Inshallah this year I intend on going to Altrawee7 prayer everynight which is something I hadn’t accomplished yet in my life!

A belated happy new year for those who started their new school year! I’m a 5th year student now! Wow! I really can’t believe how time passed by and I got here. It feels like only yesterday I was thinking how on earth am I going to survive 7 years of med school but here I am. This year is probably the craziest and busiest year of our academic plan. I have started Surgery and then I’ll pass through Pediatrics, Medicine, ENT, Ophtalmology, Family Medicine and edning with Obstetrics and Gynecology! I have actually started studying from the first week and this is a first that deserves to be recorded down in history! Wish me luck everyone. Will I aim for an A this year? Seems like an impssoible task but who knows! Of course, a B is always a great choice since not many get that to begin with.

I wish you all a great ramadan and the best of luck in school and whatever it is you’re doing!

More updates in my next post inshallah.
